Compass Minerals America Inc. Lab Technician in Cote Blanche, Louisiana


Summary: This exempt position functions within a team of other professionals, and reports directly to the Lead Mine Engineer.

The incumbent will assist and perform laboratory technical analysis and Quality Laboratory services.

Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the testing lab by maintaining equipment and material up to company standards.

  • Maintain inventories.

  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers.

  • Track and perform equipment and instruments calibrations.

  • Maintain a safe and care of lab and laboratory equipment.

  • Perform Gradation analysis.

  • Perform Chemical analysis to determine salt quality.

  • Responsible for the accuracy of resulted reported based on lab testing.

  • Perform internal audits, underground and on surface to make sure procedures are implemented according to standards.

  • Participate in establishing/ updating SOPs and policies regarding lab testing, quality, sampling, SFSF (Safe Feed Safe Food) and any related NSF standards applicable to the site.

  • Assist and maintain required documentations related to QC/QA lab and act as a document controller for the lab data.

  • Establish and send out reports regarding test results, auditing, etc.

  • Coordinate with different stake holders and departments such as logistics, processing, production, engineering, etc.

  • Work Conditions is subject to atmospheric conditions, such as fumes from reagents, fumes, odors, powders, dust and other particles. PPE and protective equipment is provided.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associates Degree in a science discipline, a bachelor degree in chemical is preferred.

  • At least two years of experience in laboratory industry.

  • Have a knowledge and background of gradation processes.

  • Have Experience on chemical testing such as titration and filtration.

  • Working knowledge of computers including MS Office applications.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to sit and stoop, kneel, and crouch to use equipment.

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodations may be made where necessary.

  • Must possess the ability to develop and maintain a teamwork environment.

  • Have a background of enterprise software such as SAP/ Oracle would be a plus for work order managements.
