Summary:

The role of the maintenance planner is critical to the ongoing success of the Maintenance and Reliability effort of the Company. The planner is responsible for identifying the elements of an executable work package that should contain but not limited to the following: the work plan, the necessary parts, tools, permits and labor to do the job. The most important thing they can do is to identify the process and the end results desired.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for screening incoming work orders, identify the scope and required level of planning and prioritize the work.

  • Conducts field walk downs to identify the work needed and document the requirements.

  • Determine if shutdown is needed.

  • Determine if engineering change is required and initiate the MOC process if necessary.

  • Identify specific safety hazards that may be encountered in the performance of the job.

  • Estimates the required `labor hours needed to complete the task and the skill set needed.

  • Plans jobs with the appropriate level of detail needed to perform the task.

  • Determine is an existing job plan is available.

  • Plans parts for all projects to increase “wrench time” and maximize efficiency.

  • Coordinate with purchasing/storeroom to order and reserve materials.

  • Keep Bills of Materials current (BOM)

  • Determines if the job is ready to schedule.

  • Change the work order status appropriately based on the work management system

  • Participates in the outage/shutdown, planning activities such as:

  • Identification and control

  • Scheduling

  • Coordination

  • Risk assessment

  • Execution

  • Continuous improvement

  • Upon completion of jobs, communicates with the skilled trades regarding ideas and procedures that would make future jobs more efficient.

  • Participates with the Reliability Department on improvement projects and a proactive maintenance plan.

  • Write work requests.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education, Knowledge and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience with EAM/CMMS systems.

  • 5 yrs. Minimum experience in the related trades.

  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude (assessment).

  • Some level of supervisory experience is desirable.

  • Spreadsheets and word processing (Excel, Word).

  • Ability to efficiently perform internet searches and research.

  • Ability to read and interpret vendor manuals, drawings and blueprints.

  • Project management software.

  • E-mail.

  • Ability to learn and apply maintenance best practices.

  • Ability to plan and organize tasks.

  • Self directing – able to work towards specific goals and objectives with limited oversight.

  • Highly motivated.

  • Committed to safety and teamwork.

Expectations:

Planners are expected to maintained accurate equipment files and related job plans. They are expected to organize effective jobs plans keeping them accurate and updated. Planners are expected to walk down jobs and ensure that all safety and work process considerations are factored into the job plan. Planners are also expected to ensure that the work management portions of the MMS are updated and accurate.
