Summary:

As a strategic partner, the HR Business Partner aligns business objectives with employees and management at the Canadian manufacturing facilities, and serves as a consultant to the local management teams on Human Resource related issues. The successful HRBP will act as an employee champion and change agent, assess and anticipate HR-related needs, communicate needs proactively and work in collaboration with corporate HR, and seek to develop integrated solutions. The HRBP formulates partnerships across the HR functions to deliver value added service to local management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the facilities’ financial positions, their short to mid-range plans, their cultures and the competition.

Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide HR leadership for multiple facilities across Canada.

  • Actively participate in the local grievance process for each unionized facility.

  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations as a member of the collective bargaining team.

  • Drive collaborative labor relations at the site level by working with both union representatives and management

  • Consult with line management providing HR guidance when appropriate.

  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies.

  • Manage and resolve complex employee and labor union relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Provide counsel on employment law issues at the local facilities in collaboration with legal.

  • Provide input into the design of corporate HR policies and implement such policies at the locations.

  • Provides day to day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase engagement, productivity and retention.

  • Provides HR Policy guidance and interpretation.

  • Develop offer terms for new hires, promotions, transfers.

  • Provide guidance and input on local restructures, workforce planning, succession planning.

  • Identify training needs for the facility and individual coaching needs.

  • Participate in evaluation and monitoring of success of training programs. Follow-up to ensure training objectives are met.

  • Participate in, and contribute to, weekly local leadership team meetings.

  • 40-50% travel required.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or equivalent work experience required.

  • CHRP designation preferred or the equivalent of Alternative Dispute and Conflict Resolution and/or Advanced Mediation and Workplace Conflict Coaching Certification.

  • 7-10 years of multi-site, progressive Human Resources & Labor Relations experience required.

  • 3-5 years’ in union environment with hands on CBA experience required.

  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, federal and state respective employment laws

  • Relevant manufacturing industry experience a plus.
