Summary: Ensures that plant equipment efficiency is maintained through proper lubrication routines. Assists higher classification mechanics in a wide variety of other aspects of general plant maintenance and/or upgrades. Must demonstrate the willingness and the ability to master the next performance classification via timely completion of the requisite skills checklist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)

  • Properly lubricates assigned plant/shop equipment as per routine schedule.

  • Provides a basic assessment of general equipment condition (e.g. unusual vibration noise and/or heat) and reports perceived problems to the proper authority.

  • Performs cutting of plate, bolts, etc., through proper use of cutting torch.

  • Cleans and washes equipment and machinery.

  • Scrapes paint, grease, and accumulated material from equipment.

  • Assists plant mechanics with a wide variety of plant maintenance and/or upgrade procedures.

  • Responds to audible code calls and emergency equipment repair call-outs as required.

  • Receives and responds to pager assignments in accordance with departmental rotations.

  • Sharpens and reshapes drills, chisels, scrapers, and redresses rough grinding wheels.

  • Performs painting, pipe installation, and basic welding as required.

  • Ensures that work areas are left in a clean and safe fashion.

  • Ability to safely and efficiently use hand tools and power tools.

  • Knowledge of similar equipment operation, repair, and/or installation, as determined by the selection process.

  • Satisfactory work record.

  • The ability to detect unusual heat, vibration, and/or audible anomalies in operating equipment.

  • The ability to work in tight spaces, hot, wet, dry, and dusty environment(s), climb ladders/stairs, ride man lifts and retain a high degree of physical stamina for extended hours.

  • Ability to work overtime as necessary and rotating shifts on a continuous, seven-day cycle.

Qualifications

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot, repair or replace equipment associated with a “C” classification checklist. Retain a high degree of physical stamina for extended hours. Must possess the minimum tool list requirements within two weeks of employment.

Education and Experience :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent

  • May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in the area of specialty

  • Most positions require 3 years of experience in the field or in a related area

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be PC proficient and possess the ability to quickly master the skills required to function. Preferably some experience with CMMS.
